In association with the luxurious Morgans Swansea, we are delighted to offer you the opportunity to join us for a very special lunch with arguably the greatest player ever to don a rugby jersey, Sir Gareth Edwards CBE. The lunch celebrating Sir Gareth at 70 will be held at Morgans, Swansea on Friday 20th April 2018.
Sir Gareth was very prominent in the Welsh team that was to the fore in European rugby in the ’60s and ‘70s. During his era the Welsh side dominated the Five Nations Championship, winning the title seven times, including three grand slams. He is one of a small group of Welsh players (Ryan Jones, Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Gerald Davies CBE and J. P. R. Williams MBE) to have won the Grand Slam on three separate occasions.
Edwards also played ten times for the British and Irish Lions, playing for the 1971 Lions team that was the only such team to win a series in New Zealand, and for the unbeaten 1974 side in South Africa.
Edwards’ try for the Barbarians against New Zealand in 1973, often referred to simply as ‘that try‘, is regarded as the greatest ever.
The afternoon will commence at 1:00pm and will include a sumptuous three-course lunch, charitable raffle and auction.
