We are delighted to announce a special ‘Pride of Wales’ dinner with one of the true greats of British boxing – Joe Calzaghe CBE. The event hosted by Mark Peters (who has worked with many of the boxing legends including Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali) will be held at the prestigious Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on Thursday 13th June, 2019.
Raised in Newbridge, Calzaghe was coached by his father Enzo during a highly-successful father-son sporting relationship.
Calzaghe went on to become the longest-reigning super-middleweight world champion in boxing history, having held the WBO title for over 10 years and making 21 successful defences (the most in super-middleweight history) before moving up to light-heavyweight. As his super-middleweight and light-heavyweight reigns overlapped, he retired with the longest continual time as world champion of any active fighter. He was also the first boxer to unify three of the four major world titles (WBA, WBC, and WBO) at super-middleweight.
Joe retired in February 2009 as a reigning World Champion with an incredible career record 46-0.
In 2007, Calzaghe won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, making him the first Welsh winner of this award since David Broome in 1960. Calzaghe was also inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
The dinner will commence at 7.30pm and will include a sumptuous two-course dinner, charitable raffle and auction. There will also be a photo opportunity with Joe prior to the main event. The dress-code is Black Tie.
Tables of 10 are available from just £450+VAT. A quantity of individual covers on shared tables of 10 are also available from just £45+VAT per person.
